Underoath started as a melodic christian black metal band and upon landing a record deal they implemented
more electronic elements on The Changing of Times (Solid State, 2002). On which their songs followed
a standard structure in the emo genre and eventually become entirely emo-pop on
They're Only Chasing Safety (Tooth and Nail, 2004), giving 10x more verses to their clean vocalist, creating
an interesting two singer dynamic. Some highlights include Down Set Go, Reinventing Your Exit
and A Boy Brushed Red Living in Black and White. From then on, their albums get progressively less pop and
back to their beginnings as a metal band with Define the Great Line (Tooth and Nail, 2006) and
Lost in the Sound of Separation (Tooth and Nail, 2008).
