Carousels were a short lived british shoegaze project that released one album, Pop (Rallye, 2013). What separates this
band from the average band of the genre is noise influence and frequent use of their keyboard player who brings a lot
to the table. Their keys shine exceptionally on the tracks Something Evil, Sweetheart and Sleep, where they're
even given a solo on the entire bridge. Some songs get help from using programmed drums, like the uniformly structured
Here to Me and All I Want, which uses a familiar guitar tone, that of Loveless, which is a throwback to the opener
Over Me that's just "Loveless riff the song". The vocals on this album are kinda just there. They provide a fair bit of
lethargicness, delivered quietly and distinctive, they just could've been altered for some extra flair. There's a few great
riffs on here, like the heavy Sweet Honey, Stay With Me, All I Could Do somehow sounds straight off an early
Paramore album. During the regular guitar solos you can tell how they're influenced by noise rock, like the wildly
psychedelic Carousel. Behind You features a directionless simple lead guitar melody, quite obviously a filler
track that didn't need to be the closer.
