A Cure to Poison the World

7/10
The Requiem's debut album, A Cure to Poison the World (Fearless, 2024), seems like a comeback of somewhat industry assisted Post-hardcore bands like Aiden, where there's a pretty good band deep down, but their end result on record are slightly watered down songs in order to get the means necessary to reach more audiences and have a high quality sound. It was produced by the legend Steve Evetts who's responsible for so many classic records by Lifetime, Snapcase, Discordance Axis, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Glassjaw, Saves the Day, A Static Lullaby, Senses Fail, Every Time I Die, Deadguy, Incantation, and the Ross Robinson Cure album.
It starts off with a couple songs that sound like Pierce the Veil. The Difference Between You & Me Is That I Get the Last Laugh has a song title ripping on Fall Out Boy/Panic at the Disco. The song Before I Go... has a chorus obviously ripping off The Used/MCR. Diary of a Masochist has some killer lead guitar and is the album’s most noteworthy track. It sounds like a Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge song fused with a little bit of metalcore. The track Less than Zero also sounds like something off Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. The weakest moments are when they tried to get slower. Like Two Lovers Left Alive, a disposable acoustic emo track which prominently features a string section that sounds like shit. It didn’t compliment their sound at all. It was pretty godawful but it was a nice try to give the tracks some variety. The closing track was just alright. At the core it's terrible, but his Gerard Way impression kind of saves the track.
Overall the production choices are decent, they get the job done and the vocalist has a fantastic style and decent range. Some decent coworker-core and one of the best emo records I've heard in a little while.
