Blackout (2007, Jive) starts off with Gimme More which immediately shows a different creative direction with some interesting ideas but held back by a painfully basic beat that it doesn't make up for, and ultimately becomes a boring track. Piece of Me has a more distinguishable drum track and convincingly inspired songwriting that doesn't wear out it's welcome like the first track does. Radar brings back another basic dance beat but she is vocally very involved with this track and does a lot with minimal production. The fourth track Break the Ice moves towards R&B and might be the best vocal performance in her entire discography, and best song. Heaven on Earth is a very pleasant song with great vocals and introduces 80s style synthesizers. Get Naked (I Got a Plan) is more interesting than memorable. It features a wacky synth lead and a random guest singer on the hook. All there is to say about it is that they were trying to do something new. Freakshow has a nice aura to it but still just another disposable dance track. Toy Soldier tries to introduce new ideas to the rhythm section and make britney come off sassy. Besides that it's just ok. Hot as Ice has some chiptune style synth lead that isn't really that good. Ooh Ooh Baby has some good vocals but that's it. Perfect Lover pretty much only exists to add some more sexuality to the album. The beat is actually pretty decent though. The album closes with Why Should I Be Sad, which is expectedly melancholic, particularly in the instrumental which really works here.
