After Tommy Walter was kicked out of famous alt rock band Eels, he formed the (mostly) solo project Abandoned Pools.
The album Humanistic (2001) is a record combining relevant styles of the time, grunge, emo and trip hop. It's heavily layered with samples the
whole way through, creating many unique basslines, string sections, wind instruments and drums. These keyboard choices along
with the samples exceed expectations for any album in these genres. Vocally and lyrically, this is very melodramatic and Tommy appears like a more
Pop Punk style Morrissey. The songs occasionally get pretty jangle pop influenced as well, and other times sound Smashing Pumpkins
influenced. Highlights include L.V.B.D., Seed, Mercy Kiss, Start Over, Fluorescein, and The Remedy.
